Blogs Can Be a Powerful Corporate Tool Study SaysJun 23, 2006 - Linknet Business News Blogs Can Be a Powerful Corporate Tool Study Says Blogging has become a mainstream internet communication tool. In fact with the advent of "social content" sites like digg.com, many would say it is almost old hat.On the other hand, blogging has simply passed by a large part of the business world. Many business people are just getting comfortable with the relatively static website model. Then along comes this interactive thing called a "blog" where people -- customers, employees, even competition -- are relatively free to make a statement, positive or negative, about the company. A statement that is hung out there for everybody to see. But blogs are evolving. Just as the web was once the exclusive haunt of technies and trendies, it is now basically owned by companies using its communication power to market products. So it has become with blogging. >>>>>>>>>> Make Money at Home - Follow 3 easy steps and he will build a money making home business website for you that's 100% ready to take orders and pull in massive residual profits. "Blogs must be viewed as part of the overall package and voice of the organization," according to "Behind the Scenes in the Blogosphere: Advice from Established Bloggers." This was a survey of 74 bloggers conduced by Nora Ganim Barnes, director of the Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. According to the report a company blog can be a very powerful force for reaching its customers, employees, and other stakeholders. "Blogs will make or break your business," says the report's first sentence. But one important word of advice: "Do not start a blog, if you don't know what you want to do with it." Understand what blogs can and cannot do, and have clear objectives for your blog. In other words, a company blog needs a plan: "Without a plan the blog is going to fail within three months. Period," one study respondent said. And the plan should address: - What is the blog's goal, focus, and audience - Is it an attempt to generate income? - Make a commitment to making frequent posts. It takes time -- about 1/3 of respondents spend one to three hours a day on their blog. - Companies need a streamlined procedure for approving posts. - How will negative comments be dealt with? A blog's "success" is measured differently by every blogger. Sometimes it is in terms of sales; but usually in terms of public relations. Sometimes the primary audience is an internal one -- employees -- in an attempt to define company strategy and unified goals. Since blogs are ideal for conversation, comment and feedback, a blog is a good place to communicate with the company. It gives the company a personal face.
