Traffic: Optimizing Techniques

To "optimize" each of your pages, here is what you should do:

1. Your primary keyword should appear in the "title" tag - the text that shows up in the blue title bar of the page.

2. Your page should begin with a <h1> heading tag which contains your primary keyword. For example, your title for a secondary page might be "Buying a Golden Retriever Puppy - Some Tips"

3. Your introductory paragraph should contain your primary keyword, and probably one or two instances of other closely related keywords.

4. The rest of your page should focus on related keywords with those keywords emphasized in the text and in sub-headings (using the h2, h3, or h4 tags.)

5. Most "experts" say your closing paragraph should also contain a few instances of your primary keyword.

6. Your page should contain a navigation menu with anchor text using the primary keywords for each page pointing to all the other important pages within your site.

7. You may also want to include a "resources" section which links out to other important resources - including other closely related things you have created - such as articles, videos, products, squidoo pages, blogs, and other websites.

Start thinking of your pages from the optimization point of view, and they will begin to do much better in the search engine rankings.

Special Link Building Program

Just put the finishing touches on New Power Links Plus. This program combines our link building plan called New Power Links with our self-serve blogging platform called The Link Builder Network - access to more than 50 blogs. Together these two programs cost $108, but this combined program is selling for just $69 - a savings of almost 40% every month.

PLUS you get something that is not normally included in a Link Builder Network membership - more than 100 professionally pre-written blog posts written especially for your website. These can be used for posting to the Link Builder Network blogs.

Different Remote Blogging Interfaces

We've been testing our new remote blogging interface for the Link Builder Network called Blogging Central, and while doing that I decided to enumerate some of the alternative remote blogging interfaces I am aware of. These include some very interesting and quite powerful programs. Here are the ones I've looked at:

Windows Live Writer - This is a slick program from Microsoft that interfaces with many different blogging platforms including Wordpress and b2Evolution - the two I am most interested in. I haven't actually tested it with other platforms such as blogger.com, but I am assuming it will work. For better or worse it lets you create complex posts that include tables and css elements. As with some others, this program requires you to individually configure each blog account you want to access. When you are dealing with more than 50 accounts, as in the case of the Link Builder Network, this can be a royal pain.

Scribfire for Firefox - Scribefire is a Firefox plugin. In other words, it only works with the Firefox browser. Scribefire is a very slick way to interface with many different types of blogs - including Wordpress, Blogger, Moveable Type, and a few others - but not b2evolution. It lets you create relatively complicated post layouts using tables and images, and it even lets you edit previously created posts. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to setup your logins. You will have to manually enter more than 50 blog logins for the Link Builder Network. And you will have to do that for each computer you want to use it with.

w.Bloggar - This is another free program that has been around for a while and has gone through a number of versions. It is currently in version 4.03, so you can be sure it is fairly stable. This program will interface with all our Wordpress and b2evolution blogs. It takes a bit of getting used to, and you must set it up for each of the blogs, but once set up it is quite efficient. We have used w.Bloggar for approximately 12 months to make posts for clients, so we know it is reliable. It is a bit more restricted on the formatting side - no tables, for instance - but this is probably a good thing. You can also load all your account logins and passwords by entering them into am .xml file and loading them all at once - a major time saver to be sure.

There are other programs like these, but I am not familiar with them.

The advantage of Blogging Central is that it is a dedicated system designed especially for posting to the Link Builder Network Wordpress blogs. Once in the system there is no need to login to each blog, and you can send the same post to as many as 4 blogs at once.

I will have a Blogging Central video up very soon.

How to Get Free Search Engine Traffic

How to Get Free Search Engine Traffic

Jan 29, 2006, Linknet Internet News - Effective webmasters and online marketers are constantly searching for ways to improve their search engine rankings.

== Link Aufbau - Pagerank-Optimierung durch Aufbau von Links  ==

The simple fact is that most websites get the majority of their traffic from search engines. So it is important to give the search engines what they are looking for. If you do, your site will do well in searches and the search engines will drive traffic to your site.

There have been many changes over the last two or three years to the way search engines evaluate the importance of websites. Many of these changes have been spurred on by Google. But other engines such as Yahoo and MSN have followed suit.

There is a general consensus among search engine optimization experts on many of the techniques and practices that enhance your website in the eyes of the search engines. Here are some of them.

1. Give your site a clearly focused theme - Your site should have a clearly focused theme which can be defined in terms of search phrases (or "keywords"). If your site has no clear theme, the search engines will not be of much help to you. Ask yourself if there is a small set of search phrases that people can use to find your site. If not, then go back to the drawing board and redefine your site.

2. Evaluate your keywords - Now let's assume you have decided on a theme, and you have defined it in terms of five or six primary search phrases (keywords.) It is time to analyze these search phrases and determine if anybody actually searches for them. There is no point in having a focused theme that no one is looking for.

There are excellent free tools and services available to help you do this analysis. One of the easiest to use is the Keyword Selector Tool built into Yahoo Search Marketing (formerly Overture.) Just enter a keyword and the tool will tell you how many searches have been done for that term in a recent period. It will also give you searches for related terms.

3. Start creating pages - Once you decide on your most important search terms (keywords) you are ready to start building pages. Give each search term its own page, and remember to focus, focus, focus. Be sure to put the keyword for each page in the page title (what shows up in the title bar), in the description metatag, and in the major headline. Then repeat it several times throughout the page, with an emphasis on repetition near the top of the page.

4. Include outbound links to "authoritative" sites in the subject area you are emphasizing. For instance, if your page is about Golf Travel, a link to a couple large established golf or golf travel sites will help establish the subject matter of your own page.

5. Create content that is unique and that focuses on your subject matter. To carry on with the previous example, if your site is about Golf Travel, you will want to focus on several different areas -- for example Scotland Golf Travel, Ireland Golf Travel, Florida Golf Travel, and so on -- and make the content on each of these pages relevant to the theme of the page. Yes, this seems obvious, but so many websites do not have this kind of obvious focus.

6. Keep your content current and update it regularly. Search engine experts refer to this as "fresh" content. One way to keep adding fresh content is to place an RSS feed from a relevant reputable source on each page. Feeds are often from news sources or blogs, and are often updated on a daily basis. Generally speaking, the more often your content is updated, the more often it will get spidered, and the better it will rank in searches.

7. Get inbound links - Now it is time to get inbound links pointing to your site. This is perhaps the most difficult part of the project, and the one that takes the most time.

The search engines consider inbound links an indicator of the importance and relevance of your site. "Relevant" links are the most valuable. These are the ones that come from other sites (or pages) that are closely related to yours.
